Design

Which of these two phones has the best design? It mostly depends on tastes, but the most iconic one is definitely the iPhone 14 Pro Max. The Dynamic Island looks very interesting, the handset is more compact and it has a better build quality thanks to the presence of a stainless steel frame instead of an aluminum frame. Further, it is better at withstanding water thanks to the IP68 certification allowing you to put it underwater up to 6 meters deep. Last but not least, it is thinner than its rival. The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra remains very attractive thanks to the absence of a camera isle and thanks to its curved display at the edges.

Display

It is a very hard fight between the displays of these two phones and it is essentially a draw because they are able to deliver a color reproduction close to perfection, very high brightness, and a very high level of detail. The iPhone 14 Pro Max is able to reach a higher peak brightness: up to 2,000 nits. It has a Super Retina XDR OLED display with a 6.7-inch diagonal, a resolution of 1290 x 2796 pixels, a 120 Hz refresh rate, the HDR10 certification, and Dolby Vision. The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra has a Dynamic AMOLED display with a diagonal of 6.8 inches, a Quad HD+ resolution of 1440 x 3088 pixels, a 120 Hz refresh rate, the HDR10+ certification, and even the support for S Pen for handwriting and drawing. For authentication, the iPhone relies on 3D facial recognition thanks to Face ID, while the Samsung has an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint reader.

Specs & Software

Even though the hardware setup of the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra looks better on paper, the iPhone 14 Pro Max actually provides higher performance thanks to the iOS operating system. The Samsung is powered either by an Exynos 2200 mobile platform by Samsung or a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 mobile platform by Qualcomm, paired with up to 12 GB of RAM and up to 1 TB of native storage. The iPhone 14 Pro Max has the new Apple A16 Bionic proprietary chipset running at a max frequency of 3.46 GHz, 6 GB of RAM, and up to 1 TB of native storage. All the chipsets we mentioned are built with a 4 nm production process and they come with the most powerful CPUs and GPUs out there. Note that Samsung runs Android, customized by One UI.

Camera

The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is a more versatile phone because it comes with more interesting secondary sensors, such as a periscopic 10 MP lens with a whopping 10x optical zoom. It even comes with an amazing 40 MP front camera able to record 4K videos at 60 fps. We still had no chance to try the camera of the iPhone 14 Pro Max, but we expect awesome results from its new 48 MP main camera. The secondary sensors are the same as its predecessors, with a 12 MP telephoto lens, and a 12 MP ultrawide camera.

On the other hand, Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is able to charge quicker thanks to 45W fast charging. Both phones feature wireless charging, but the iPhone is the only one with the MagSafe technology.

Price
